The play at times outgrows the scale of mere toys, as when Fischli and Weiss balance tires or even kitchen chairs in precarious arrangements

  • Hal Foster

Originally we (Leigh French, Peter Suchin and Billy Clark) had prepared a formal interview with Hal Foster. ?The date rape drug, catalepsy was another version I did some research about,?you know, people being buried alive because they looked dead and then they wake up. So one thing was to do the almost hardcore journalism, you know, asking, who could this have happened to , but another thing to think about was what would it be like to be alive when everyone thinks you are dead, to be just an object, not to be seen, not to be recognised, not to be present for people. In that sense, thinking about it in a more metaphorical way, gave me a way to tell the story.?

It is something of a clich? to say that net culture is in constant flux. However, recent seismic shifts in the political and cultural landscape brought about by the economic downturn, the further militarisation of American foreign policy after September 11 and the museumification of net.art are forcing many to rethink the aims of electronic engagement. Here, interdisciplinary artist and writer Coco Fusco talks to hacktivist and Electronic Disturbance Theater member Ricardo Dominguez about the hybrid net_art_activism&Mac226; past and future
